Peter Mark Photography

I hope you enjoy these images. This site is a work in progress. Additional images from my recent visit to Spain, earlier travels in Europe, and additional images from around the Pacific Northwest will appear soon.

I was exposed to art at an early age. My mother was an artist; she produced limited edition artist books with the The ELM Press imprint. My photographic endeavors began when I was living in Israel in the 1980s after graduating college. The spectacular desert landscapes and the profusion of flowers and blossoms were unlike anything I had ever seen. Surely no one would believe my descriptions, unless accompanied with photographs. After trying out a coworker's Olympus OM-1 on a few desert excursions, I bought one of my own. My photography is still primarily a way to share with friends and family my mountain hikes, overseas travels, and urban meanderings. Since August 2002, my work has appeared in numerous one-man photography exhibits at cafes and restaurants in Seattle. My work has also been accepted in several group shows and won awards in juried fine arts competitions.

About the Images

These photographs were taken without filters (except a polarizing filter, occasionally). The images are scans of the full image, made with an Epson flatbed scanner; the prints are printed full-frame as well, without digital modification. Indoor and night scenes were shot using available light, without flash. I use an Olympus OM-1n, a fully mechanical, manual 35mm SLR camera, which I have used for over twenty years, and a variety of fixed-length lenses ranging from 16mm to 300mm. The close-up images were not taken with a macro lens, but rather by using extension rings which fit between the camera body and any lens. The prints, mats, and backing are acid-free and archival.

Most of these images are available for purchase. Framed 8" x 12" prints are $150; dry-mounted prints are $125, and unframed prints are $110. The prints are guaranteed for the life of the negative: I will replace any print you purchase should it fade or yellow or otherwise become unacceptable due to aging as long as the negative is available for making prints of equal quality. If you purchase an unframed print, I am happy to sign the mat of your choice.
